Introducing Tamper Protection for all Windows 10 devices: Microsoft Defender

Recently, it brings out the Microsoft’s Tamper Protection feature. It stands compatible with all Windows 10 devices. This advanced feature will rescue your device from any malware attack. Which earlier left all the settings disturbed.


The company confirms, “Tamper Protection is a new setting available in the Windows Security app. It provides additional protections against changes to key security features. Including limiting changes that are not made directly through the app.’


Before the introduction of Tamper protection. It was possible by third-party applications and software to provide an open gate for viruses, threats. It also used to turn-off behavior monitoring and erase security intelligence updates.


The main feature of Tamper Protection

Microsoft’s Tamper Protection features, security against key security features of the device. This may include-restriction changes that are not made directly through Windows Security app.





How does Tamper Protection feature works? 

As claimed from Microsoft itself, it essentially locks Windows Defender Antivirus. Eventually, it also restricts settings from being changed through third-party apps and software. This may include: 

  1. Configuring settings in registry editor on your Windows 
  2. Changing setting through PowerShell 
  3. Editing and removing security settings through group policies 
  4. And many others. 

It is also important to know that, Microsoft’s Tamper Protection feature does not stop in viewing your security settings. It also doesn’t affect how a third-party antivirus app or software gets registered with the Windows Security app. 


If your organization is using Windows 10 Enterprise E5. There, users cannot able to make changes in the Tamper Protection settings. It can strictly be managed by concerning security team. 

How to enable the Tamper Protection feature on your device? 

No worries, if you are enabling the new feature by Microsoft on. Here, you will get to know the easy yet authentic steps in enabling the Tamper Protection features. 

  1. Go to the home button (Windows button) and search for ‘Defender’. There you will find, Windows Security. 
  2. Select virus and threat protection. Then, followed by ‘Virus and Threat Protection Setting’. 
  3. Let the Tamper Protection to On and Off. 
  4. You should also be very careful as Tamper Protection also attempts to blocks the users. It is learned those who tend to change Windows Defender Antivirus settings.  How to enable Tamper Protection on Windows 10? 

  1. Click start and select settings. 
  2. Click update and security. 
  3. On the setting panel, go to Windows Security. 
  4. Through a new sidebar gets opened. Click on virus and threat protection
  5. Under the virus and threat protection setting, click manage setting. 
  6. Scroll down and search for ‘Tamper Protection’. If the switch is off, turn it on. 

Note: In the Insider build of version Windows 10. The new Microsoft’s Tamper Protection feature is turned on.

This new feature was first tested in December 2018. It was the same time when it first got rolled out to Windows Insider Preview. Now, this year Microsoft officially announced Tamper Protection in Windows 10 version 1903. But, it was manually enabled and was available selectively.
